The icebreaker 'Williston Transporter' pioneered the use of a double acting reamer. This idea was first developed by STXM in early 1988. The 'Williston Transporter' was built on the side of a lake using civil engineering techniques. It incorporates 4 Z-drives for propulsion which are mounted in cans for vertical removal. In this way, the drives can be maintained without the need for docking. |
