Location: Ottawa, ON, Canada

SENIOR MARINE ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS ENGINEER

Preference will be given to candidates who have a demonstrable track record in design projects involving diesel electric power plants.

Principal duties

  • Perform electrical engineering calculations using recognized practices for the marine industry and to Classification and other regulatory agency requirements. 
  • Prepare electrical design technical packages including one-line diagrams, electric load analysis; short circuit analysis; cable selection for submission to Classification Societies.
  • Have excellent knowledge of marine electrical systems to ensure the functionality of the equipment required for a vessel.
  • Prepare electrical arrangement taking into account all systems requirements.
  • Prepare electric cable/component weight estimates.
  • Capable of supervising development of cable tray and equipment arrangements and production information in 2-D and 3-D.
  • Act as Design Project Manager for small projects when requested, with responsibilities for budget, quality and schedule control.
  • Provide technical lead assistance to other Project Managers on larger projects.

Experience

  • Minimum 10 years Marine Electrical Systems design experience.
  • Excellent working knowledge of AutoCAD and MS Office.
  • Familiar with Classification Society, US and international regulations, including Transport Canada, USCG, CFR, SOLAS, IEEE, MARPOL, IACS, ILC.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or better from an industry recognized institution.
  • Professional Engineer status or eligibility status preferred but not essential.
  • Ability to work independently or in large project team.

Location: Ottawa, ON, Canada

PROJECT NAVAL ARCHITECT/ ADVANCED ANALYSIS ENGINEER

Preference will be given to candidates who have a demonstrable track record in design projects and other practical applications of advanced analysis.

Principal duties

  • Perform stability calculations and hull form development using software such as GHS and Rhino. 
  • Perform detailed seakeeping and operability calculations, including MII & MSI
  • Perform maneuvering calculations, DP sizing calculations
  • Perform powering calculations, including resistance calculations and propeller sizing calculations.
  • Prepare vessel arrangements displaying knowledge of SOLAS and regulatory body requirements.
  • Prepare weight estimates to either class or production engineering level of detail.
  • Develop models for FE analysis and have the ability to carry out basic analysis.
  • Develop models for CFD analysis and have the ability to carry out basic analysis.
  • Preparation of project schedules (budget, work plans, etc)
  • Monitor project budget performance & technical quality
  • Monitor individual project status (budget, work plans, etc) and provide regular updates to the senior project manager.

Experience

  • 5 years experience working in a naval architecture design consultancy office
  • In depth knowledge of the designs for different Canadian and International flag states and regulatory bodies.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture or better from an industry recognized institution. A Master's degree is preferred. 
  • Professional Engineer status in the Province of Ontario preferred.

MARINE SYSTEMS DESIGNER

Preference will be given to candidates who have a demonstrable track record in the design of Offshore Supply/AHTS vessels or other large marine projects.

Principal duties

  • Perform engineering calculations using empirical formulae from Classification Regulations as well as from first principles.  
  • Perform HVAC calculations according to recognized marine standard criteria.
  • Prepare mechanical/diagrammatic drawing packages for submission to Classification Societies.
  • Prepare machinery arrangements taking into account all systems requirements.
  • Have adequate knowledge of marine engineering and systems to ensure the functionality of the equipment required for a vessel.
  • Prepare mechanical/piping system weight estimates.
  • Capable of supervising development of piping arrangements and spool piece production in 2-D and 3-D.
  • Act as Design Project Manager for small projects when requested, with responsibilities for budget, quality and schedule control. Provide assistance to other Project Managers on larger projects.

Experience

  • Minimum 5-7 years Marine Systems design experience.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Autocad and MS Office.
  • Experience with ShipConstructor software preferred but not essential.
  • Familiar with Classification Society, US and international regulations, including USCG, CFR, SOLAS, MARPOL, IACS, ILC.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or higher qualification from a recognized maritime institute.

PROJECT NAVAL ARCHITECT (Position 1)

Preference will be given to candidates who have a demonstrable track record in the design development of Offshore Supply/AHTS vessels or other large marine projects.

Principal duties

  • Prepare vessel General Arrangements and Compartment Arrangements incorporating SOLAS and other regulatory body requirements.
  • Arrange for interfaces with specialist supplier companies as required.
  • Act as Design Project Manager when requested, with responsibilities for budget, quality and schedule control. Provide assistance to other Project Managers on larger projects.
  • Prepare outfit drawings for: passive fire protection, fire fighting equipment, lifesaving equipment, door and window schedules, hatches, anchor and mooring systems, compartment outfit, etc.
  • Perform stability analyses and supervise inclining experiments.
  • Prepare power prediction calculations.
  • Prepare project weight estimates.

Secondary duties

  • Perform structural calculations using empirical formulae from Classification Regulations as well as from first principles.
  • After completion of training in the selected software and analytical tools, to assist in the development of models for FE analysis and have the capability to carry out FE analyses.
  • Prepare structural drawing packages for submission to Classification Societies.

Experience

  • Minimum 5-7 years Naval Architecture experience.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Autocad and MS Office.
  • Experience with ShipConstructor software preferred but not essential.

Preference will be given to candidates who have a demonstrable track record in the design development of Offshore Supply/AHTS vessels or other large marine projects.

Principal duties

  • Perform structural calculations using empirical formulae from Classification Regulations as well as from first principles.
  • Development of models and conduct of Finite Element Analyses.
  • Prepare initial scantling drawings and weight estimates for concept designs.
  • Prepare structural drawing packages for submission to Classification Societies.
  • Prepare enhanced (functional level) structural design packages from which shipyards will be able to prepare production information.
  • Prepare structural weight estimates.
  • Act as Design Project Manager for small projects when requested, with responsibilities for budget, quality and schedule control. Provide assistance to other Project Managers on larger projects.

Secondary duties

  • Perform stability analyses and supervise inclining experiments when required.
  • Prepare power prediction calculations.
  • Be familiar with general aspects of vessel design and regulatory requirements.

Experience

  • Minimum 5-7 years Naval Architecture experience with emphasis on structural design.

Location: Vancouver, BC, Canada

PROJECT NAVAL ARCHITECT

Preference will be given to candidates who have a demonstrable track record in the design of Offshore Supply/AHTS vessels or other large marine projects.

Representative tasks, duties and responsibilities

a)     Project Management

  • Perform all aspects of project management for projects with a budget of up to $1 million, to ISO 9001 standards
  • Perform the role of second in command to the project manager for projects with a budget in excess of $1 million
  • Preparation of project schedules (budget, work plans, etc.)
  • Project budget performance & technical quality
  • Preparation of project specs and engineering documents
  • Monitor individual project status (budget, work plans, etc.) and provide regular updates to the senior  project manager.
  • Assign individual project tasks to project staff members.
  • Supervision of staff working on a project
  • Selection of project consultants
  • Manage project consultants
  • Perform individual project communications (regular project staff meetings)
  • Resolve project related issues
  • Coordinate / process project change orders
  • Initiate project invoicing (markup of Project List report for accounting)
  • Obtain Client Technical Approval of invoices
  • Be fully aware of ISO office standards, e.g. ISO 9001, & their purpose
  • Ensure project QA / QC is performed
  • Supports the marketing efforts of the President as needed

b)     Proposal preparation

  • Prepare proposals for projects including identification of discrete task across all disciplines, assessment of manpower requirements for each task, requesting quotes from subcontractors, preparing the overall budget and RFP response document
  • Support the Proposal Manager in the preparation of individual Proposals

c)     Technical Abilities & Tasks

  • Perform stability calculations, hull form development, sea keeping and power prediction calculations to support proposal and project efforts
  • Perform structural calculations using empirical formulae and specialized software, from Classification Regulations as well as from first principles
  • Prepare vessel arrangements for marketing and proposal efforts displaying knowledge of SOLAS and regulatory body requirements, together with knowledge of requirements for main and auxiliary systems.
  • Prepare structural drawing packages for submission to Classification Societies with limited input from PM or other structural resources within the office
  • Prepare production engineering drawings, cutting tapes and information packages
  • Prepare weight estimates to either class or production engineering level of detail
  • Develop models for FE analysis and have the ability to carry out basic analysis
  • Develop models for CFD analysis and have the ability to carry out basic analysis

Experience

  • Experience working with, or preferably for, a classification society
  • 3 years of shipyard experience, split between a shipbuilder building vessels of at least 5000 Tonnes, and a ship repair yard. This experience is to include working with a large range of vessel types. These vessels types should include as a minimum the following:
    • military vessels
    • oil industry vessels
    • merchant vessels
    • cruise ships
    • ferries
    • patrol vessels.
  • Work experience is to include the following:
    • lightship surveys
    • inclining experiments
    • docking and undocking calculations
    • weight assessment
    • stability analysis
    • production engineering, control, and fabrication support
    • dimensional checking
    • lifting calculations
  • 3 years experience working in a naval architecture design consultancy office

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture or better from an industry recognized institution. A Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Be enrolled in a recognized association of Naval Architects.
  • An excellent ability in English
  • Cognizant of all aspects of the management of projects, including, but not limited to, the following: establishing realistic working budgets, deliverable deadlines, budget tracking & analysis, prioritize and coordinate project schedules
  • Excellent time management ability
